| Hello and welcome to my Wiki user page.
In real life my name is Jayne. I am a management consultant who has worked in Information Systems since 1981. I wrote my first computer program in 1974 while I was still at school. My experience covers programming, analysis, design, system specification, consultancy, project management, and computer and audit departmental management. My experience has been gained over a wide range of hardware, software, and operating environments from mainframe to personal and hand-held computers. I am a Professional Member of the British Computer Society (MBCS). In January 1992, I had an accident on a Price Waterhouse training course. The accident fractured five vertebrae and two ribs and damaged one of my kidneys. Since my accident I have had two operations on my spine and extensive physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and medical intervention. I have tried to regain a reasonable level of mobility and to update my skills to be relevant to the current IT environment. I have computerised my physiotherapist’s practice, including the specification and selection of hardware and software and the implementation of accounting software and a patient database. I have computerised the accounting function of a retail jeweller, including the automatic preparation of the quarterly VAT returns. I have designed, built, and I now maintain a website for a friend who is a chartered accountant. I support family and friends’ computers (Mac OS X to Windows 7) and I am a moderator on a forum for Samsung netbook users. To stop my brain from atrophying, I have studied a range of part-time courses. In 2001-2, I completed the Java I, II, and III programming courses at Cardiff Learn. In 2002-3, I completed parts I, II, and III of the Creative Web Design (www.jmsw.net) course at Cardiff Learn. From 2003 to 2005, I completed seven Cardiff Learn accredited Photography courses at Chapter Arts Centre. I now want to consolidate and update my skills in a formal educational environment. The topics covered in the University of Glamorgan’s MSc in Computer Forensics have long fascinated me and the University’s method of delivering this course are ideal for someone who has ‘good and bad days’ and who (to a certain extent) needs to be able to control their working environment. I also hope that my experience of more than 25 years’ studying and working in IT will be an asset which will help me achieve my goal. |
