Why I have a netbook
I have a solid desktop PC sitting in my study at home. It's not a state of the art PC but it has plenty of disk space, RAM, several processing cores and a graphics card that can run modern games such as COD5 or L4D. So why would I need a netbook?
- Portability: Like most people living in London I spend a large amount of time travelling to and from work. As a train commuter I am free to spend that hour each day doing something productive and this is what really drove me to make the purchase. The NC10 is just the right size between too big and too small to allow for comfortable computing yet just the right size to sling into a bag. Even a larger laptop can be inconvenient on a rammed London commuter train so size really does matter.
- Convenience: If you want to quickly check out an address, look up a film time, or make a quick online purchase, it can be very frustrating to have to go to the household desktop, wait for it to start, fire up the browser, make the lookup and then shut it all down again and then return to where you were. I found having the netbook changed how we used the Internet. It is now possible to dive in and out whilst still sitting in the kitchen or in the garden without having to interrupt an activity in quite the same way.
