Overview
The Galaxy Tab (P1000) is an Android based mobile tablet device, with a 7" screen. Other larger and smaller models are set to follow. News of the Tablet was first leaked onto the Internet back in May 2010, however the Galaxy Tab was not officially announced until September.
A teaser video was released in late August to announce the official unveiling of the Tab in the September IFA show.
The Tab is built around Google's Android 2.2 operating system, with access to the full range of apps within the market. Samsung have been working with Android to ensure maximum compatibility from day one.
The Samsung tablet is able to make phone calls (although this feature is limited to certain regions only), it also features front and rear facing cameras to enable video chat.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Review
Reviews of the Tab have been mixed with some being fairly positive and others rating it as more mediocre. Here we round up a selection to read and provide a feel for what the critics are saying:
- Cnet: The Samsung Galaxy Tab isn't as slick or majestic as the iPad, but it's more nimble, more feature-packed and well suited to the requirements of the gentleman or lady about town. It's rough around a few of its edges, but it's a really impressive piece of kit nevertheless. 4/5
- Techradar: If portability and Android are your main concern, the Galaxy Tab is certainly a handy gadget to have in your geeky arsenal. But for £530, we were expecting a hell of a lot more. 3/5
- Pocket Lint: What you do get from the Samsung Galaxy Tab is a fully featured device and once you get the chance to settle down and load it with apps, and get things running how you want them, you’ll find it a great companion. 8/10
- PC Pro: We suspect the Samsung Galaxy Tab will be the best of the Android 2.2 tablets, but it lacks the slickness of an iPad and is far too expensive 4/6
