What is the Samsung Galaxy S?
The Samsung Galaxy S is a smart phone from Korean mega electronics company Samsung. It might well be thought of as an iPhone competitor.
What other names are the Galaxy S known by?
The Galaxy S has been getting some individual branding from the US carriers, you can expect to see:
- T-Mobile are selling the "Samsung Vibrant"
- AT&T's version is the Samsung Captivate,
- The Fascinate goes to Verizon
- And finally Spint get the Epic 4G.

This phone packs a 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird
What screen does it use?
The Galaxy S makes use of a 4.0-inch super AMOLED display which is something that really sets this model apart from the competition. Expect "vibrant" images.

How do I do a Factory Reset on my Galaxy S?
Here are two ways to perform a hard reset:
You can either:
- From the main home screen, tap menu
- Press 'Settings', then 'Privacy'
- Press 'Factory data reset'
- Press 'Reset phone'
- Enter your password and then press 'Yes' to confirm
Or you can try:
- Turn the power off.
- Hold down the Volume Up, Power and Home buttons.
- When the 'Galaxy S GT-i9000' startup screen shows, release the buttons.
- Use Volume Up/Down to navigate to "wipe data/factory reset"
- Press Home to confirm.
Note, performing a hard reset will result in lost data / settings. Remember to regularly backup important information.
How about a soft reset?
The hard reset a little too much for you! If you need to do a soft reset, press and hold Volume Up and Power Button for 5 seconds. Your phone will turn off and restart.

What Operating System does the Galaxy S run?
It originally shipped with Android 2.1 and an enhanced user interface known as "Smart Life".
How do I export my Contacts?
If you have connected your Google account then you can also sync with Google Contacts
Alternatively:
- Open Contacts and press the Menu button
- Press More
- Press Import/Export
- Press Export to SD card
- Press OK to confirm
You should find a "00001.vcf" file on your SD Card (\sdcard) containing your contacts
How can I Control Brightness?
If you set the brightness as manual setting, you can control it by swiping the Notification Bar.
Swype Tips
How can I disable Swype
You can do this by heading to any input area (for example in an SMS message) and then press and hold, select "Input Method" and finally select "Samsung Keypad".
It can be a bit tricky to move the cursor to the right spot when you want to go back and edit some text, this tip will help. Simply press the swype symbol (that's the blue s with a pointy finger), then drag to the SYM button. A new keyboard will appear with navigational arrows - and more!
To do the same with the standard keyboard, just hold '?123' and a keyboard with arrows will appear. From here you can also do 'Select', 'Copy', 'Cut' and 'Paste' To return to the alphabet keyboard, just tap on 'Text'.
Application Tips
How do I use the Smart Alarm
For example, at 6.47pm, the smart alarm will go off. If you ignore it you'll get the alarm tone at 6.50.
Time = 6.50pm Alarm type = "Melody" Alarm tone = "Good Morning"
Smart Alarm settings: Checked Duration = "3 min" Tone= "Light"
