Caution!
- This will likely void the warranty
- When removing the keyboard there will be some resistance, however be careful as the keys are delicate.
Some of the reasons to remove the keyboard
- The keyboard is damaged and needs to be replaced, due to spillage or some other damage.
- The keyboard lifts up at the top right or left corners.
- Replace the keyboard with one with a different layout/language
how to remove the keyboard
- Make sure the NC10 is switched off, unplugged and the battery removed.
- Turn the laptop over. It is recommended that it is placed on something soft so as not to scratch the lid.
- Remove the three screws labelled KBD and circled in red in the image below.
- Next turn the laptop back over and open the screen.
- Now pry at the top of the keyboard (the part closest to the screen), there may be some resistance due to some sticky pads and/or clips which hold the keyboard in place.
- The next step is to disconnect the ribbon cable from the motherboard. This is done by pivoting the black connector upwards, the ribbon cable should then come loose. See the pictures below.
- The keyboard can now be removed completely from the machine.
How to reattach the keyboard
- The process to reattach the keyboard is the same as removing it only in reverse.
- When reattaching the ribbon cable you need to place it back into it's connector carefully so that the tabs on the edge of the cable line up in the connector. Once they are lined up close the connector.
How to stop the keyboard from lifting up at the top right or left
- This may not be necessary on newer NC10's as they appear to have better engineered tabs which hold the keyboard down at the top.
- The easiest way to fix the problem is to apply some additional double sided sticky pads to the keyboard as shown in the image below.
