Installing Software
My Netbook has no optical drive - how do I install software without a CD drive?
- If you have a desktop PC you can network to this and share the optical drive, for more information check out the networked optical drive how to guide.
- You can use an external optical drive. Check out the accessories page.
- If the software license allows it, you can create images of your disc using software such as this and then you can access and use the disc as if it were in a real optical drive.
- Note that circumnavigating copy protection and/or DRM systems may be illegal where you are and as such we cannot condone or advise how to do this.
I want to install an OSX Apple Operating System?
Installing OS X on non-supported hardware is against Apples Terms of use. As such we cannot condone or advise how to do this. It is possible to install OSX on an NC10.
Keeping Your Netbook up to date
My Netbook came with Windows, how do I keep this up to date?
Microsoft regularly publish updates and fixes. You can run Windows update from your start menu or head over to their website for more information.
I have run the Samsung update software and it doesn't pick up any new updates?
It is thought that this updater does not work correctly. If it finds no updates then check the Samsung official download area or keep an eye on the blog and forum for news.
I get an error from PersistWndName when I shut down my netbook
As suggested in the forum, this is caused by Intel Graphics and you can use wither msconfig or CCleaner to prevent the loading of igfxpers.exe at start up.
Running Games
Can my netbook run games?
Sure. Not the latest modern ones, but some older ones will be fine. This wiki contains game lists for various Samsung Netbook models.
Am I allowed to run games on my desktop and netbook?
Generally games will be licensed for one install only. However some publishers will allow multiple installs so it is worth checking. I recommend the Steam delivery system as this allows games to be moved between computers easily with no requirement for optical drives.
