There are several things you can do, including but not limited to:
- Set a password on your Windows account
- Set a password on the Windows Home Admin account, yes by default this account has no password!
- Don't save passwords and personal information in your browser
- Encrypt personal data using a package such as TrueCrypt

Are there alternative security products?
Yes, many members of SammyNetbook.com have installed their preferred security suite. You can also check out free alternatives such as Avast and AVG.
Why should I pay for one then?
Opinion will vary on this one. But paid for solutions are generally more comprehensive and will include a whole suite of security products. However savvy users who take care how and when they browse the Internet will be happy to use the free products. Fuller products may well be resource hungry which could potentially have a negative impact on an ultra portable PC.
So how do I remove McAfee's anti virus software from my netbook?
A removal tool is offered, check out this thread. Anti virus software can be hard to remove - this is so that it is harder for malware to disable it!

Use a program such as Eraser. This will overwrite files in a multitude of ways to ensure they are unrecoverable. ===I've heard that covert government agencies can manipulate magnetic fields to dig up historical files[/b] There have been some proposed theoretical ideas to recover data from magnetic media after overwriting. I wouldn't worry about it though. I don't think your browsing history is of that much interest!
How can I keep my drivers up to date?
