Well, Google are up to version 4 already which goes to show they are committed to pushing forward Android at a fast rate. I guess both companies have essentially limitless resource to throw at these operating systems so we should expect both to be pretty well developed.

Perhaps Google's advantage is that without being tied to hardware releases they can evolve much quicker. But then that comes with a big disadvantage, Android has to be more flexible.
