Face detection is always off on HZ35W for Smart Auto, Auto, P, A.S.M, Dual IS?

I just purchased a digital camera, the Samsung HZ35W and found out that the face detection not working on some shooting modes. I was not able to activate the face detection for Smart Auto, Auto, P, A.S.M, Dual IS. It seems that face detection only works in some preset options in SCN mode. Is this normal? I just got it for four days. The manual (page 54) indicates that face detection can be used for Auto, P, A.S.M, Dual IS, and SCN. Is my camera defective? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Is that the WB650? I can't help with your question I'm afraid, a quick look round doesn't really provide any more info. Perhaps a call to the official Samsung support line might help. If you get an answer please let us know

I'm actually looking at getting a camera myself, but might spend a bit extra to get the WB2000. Not sure yet!

No, it is the HZ35W (the newly released model). Thanks for your suggestion. I'll contact the official Samsung Support for help and let you know what they say.

I talked to Samsung support and learned how to turn on the face detection. It works now but not very well as I expected. It does not always detect people face. Don't expect it to work well like the Canons. Since I don't care much about this feature so I keep the camera. Another thing I am testing now is the geotagging feature. The camera was not preloaded with map data. I will have to download it from their website which doesn't always work. I tried all day today but not able to connect to their download page. Beside these two things, the camera performs very well. It exceeds my expectations. The AMOLED display is awesome (never seen any display this good on point-n-shoot before). The pictures are crisp with very good color reproduction. The zoom works well. Light distribution (and balancing between front and back) is very nice. I include a link to some sample pictures I took in the past few days should you be interested to review. Hope this help you to decide if you want to buy this camera. I just realized that HZ35W is also WB650. I recommended this camera to two of my friends already.

Thanks for reporting back MuiMit - I've been struggling to understand face detection on my WB2000. But, like you, this feature was not something that really excited me so I'm not too bothered!

If I do work it out I'll report back lol
