    Wink Microsoft media player

After lots of research and a general walk round this site purchased a Black NC10 for light use between home and office. Already own an R719 for general stuff. I am aware of the limitions of a netbook over a laptop but was surprised when the media player played music CDs, work demonstations on CDs (through an external drive) but not DVDs. Requires a decoder. DVDs play well on the R719. Is it worth buying a fix for this or is the Atom 270 not up to DVDs?

Hi! My understanding is that the "premium" versions of Windows do have DVD playback but netbooks seem to come with the cheap "light" version which requires this extra plugin. I think the NC10 can play back DVDs OK - although it's not something I have tried myself. It does struggle to play HD video, but DVD quality should be OK.

Try the popular and free media player VLC, you can get it from here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

This should allow you to test DVD play back yourself with no extra cost! Let us know how you get on !
