What is SammyWiki?
SammyWiki is an indepndent website and is in no way connected to Samsung. The site was born from SammyNetbook.com - a support community for netbook owners. A wiki seemed a good idea to help record the collective knowledge of the community and it seemed to make sense that this could be extended to other Samsung products.
Why Samsung?
I am not a Samsung fanboy - honest! But most of us have noticed that, whearas 10 years ago when we looked around our home most of our electronic gadgets were made by Sony, they now seem to be mostly made by Samsung! I base my purchases of electronic consumer goods on looks, functionality and overall value for money and although I will try to review the whole market, more often than not Samsung seem to hit the right spot.
Why Dedicate a Wiki to one Manufacturer?
As mentioned above, it has come around by accident more than anything else. But I noticed that there are a couple of successful Sony community sites out there, so why not have a go at a Sammy one? We are not affiliated with Samsung, nor are we afraid to represent their products fairly within the context of the whole market. We are also happy to discuss other products so if you think the iPhone is better than the Omnia or the EEE is better than the NC10 then don't be afraid to share your thoughts!
What is acceptable?
The key rule for this site is that we are looking for friendly and helpful participants. I would much rather this site appeals to beginners and the less technically able so I ask the more experienced technophiles to be polite and respectful. If you don't think a question was worth asking, just ignore the post. Beginners are encouraged to ask questions and seek advice. The forum rules wil be enforced so please check them out and if you prefer "anything goes" discussion boards then this one migh not be for you - please respect these wishes.
Wiki Editing
There is some advice on editing over on the main wiki area (http://www.sammywiki.com/wiki/Wiki_Guide). Generally we encourage anyone to chip in and add content. Large edits and re-writes are generally discouraged, please start a discussion if you intend to conduct a large overhaul. Unlike Wikipedia, the editing style can be informal and fun if you wish, but please try to keep things factually correct. If you have any questions then just start a thread in the forum and we'll steer you in the right direction!
